| Friday, February 26, 2016 Long time since my last update. It's like 4AM, and I can't sleep after having taken a nap a few hours ago. Because of certain activities at work that I've been trying to do in my spare time, I've been itching to try and update this page and some of the other pages. Also, maybe try to brush up on my HTML knowledge again. All I know is, there's never enough time to do everything that you want to do! Well, I had a lot more re-learning to do than I thought. :) I went and made a custom 404 error page, so people can navigate back to certain areas without having to hit back on their browser. I just think it's better design when you can always click links to move around. Others might disagree, but, it's what I think is best. Also, I'm trying to see if I can update the copyright notices and other information. I might eventually see to breaking this What's New page into multiple pages. Again, only if I ever find enough time to do it. Thursday, July 2, 2015 Working from home. I'm experimenting more with these table layouts. You might notice a difference with this page. I tried to use the table to make new cells, as opposed to what I was doing before. It seems to be making a difference. I'll see about publishing this completely new page. Well, I seem to like this better! Having more cells allows me to structure the page in a way that is easier to edit. I might do this from now on. Also, I think I need to downgrade my copy of KompoZer on the Mac from 0.8.3b to 0.7.1. I noticed that some of the bugs I have found on the Mac copy do not exist on my Windows copy, which the Windows copy is 0.7.1 stable release. When I'm done with work, I'll get on that. Well, there are still some bugs. But, I am able to access the remote webpage, which is what I really want to do. Well, I eventually discovered that the reason that my Mac version of KompoZer is not the stable version is because that version is PPC only. So now, I'm trying to experiment with another web site editing program, BlueGriffon. Also, in order to upload the files, I needed an FTP client, so I downloaded the recommended program called FileZilla. So far, it's pretty cool, because it allows me to both download updated files and upload files. So, if I were to edit a page at work (hush hush), I could download the updated copy later onto my Macbook Pro. You always need a local copy, in case of any issues. Wednesday, July 1, 2015 I finally bit the bullet today and did what I thought I would never do. After reading over a bunch of websites and really thinking long and hard about it, I decided to first register my domain name with GoDaddy.com. Then, after a while, I decided I should just host my website with them as well. Now, if you are reading this, then you will know that I have been successful in starting this webpage! How about that for a Wednesday! I need to think about really sprucing up the rest of the pages, especially the Ancestry Research page. Also, I'll be re-naming the link on the hompage that says "Gallery" and instead have it say Photography, which is what it will be about anyway. I decided to that I wanted to increase the width of these pages. I had started with a "safe zone" width of 600 pixels wide. That would be used to safely allow people who still use 800X600 SVGA resolution to still see the full width of the page. But, who the hell still uses SVGA anyway? So, I increased it to 768 pixels wide, or XGA resolution "safe" (1024X768). And, it all looks good on my smartphone, which is another consideration; what to do about mobile users, such as myself. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 Well, I was thinking of putting the time to really make it official, but I don't remember it exactly. Still, this is the beginning of the webpage! The birth of a new era! Although, if you actually are browsing this site, you couldn't access it on June 30, as it only existed inside of my work computer. But, allegedly, everything must be celebrated, even Kindergarten graduation! Later in the day, I copied the files from my work computer over to my Macbook to continue editing. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. One thing though, I'm still undecided on whether I should actually register a domain and host a website. We'll see what I decide in the next coming days. |
